PUNJAB
Punjab News: Khanpur village in Punjab’s Patiala district has become famous for a very unusual reason. The dogs here are called millionaires because land worth crores is registered in their names. Nearly 160 bighas of fertile land belongs not to humans but to these mute animals. In this village, people believe dogs are not just guardians but divine beings who deserve respect and ownership.
The village has around 800 families and all of them follow the same tradition. No one eats a single bite of food before the dogs are fed. People prepare meals specially for them. At the local shrine, the dogs are given missi roti, lassi, and other dishes as offerings. The entire community treats them like gods, and this tradition has continued for decades.
At the dera of the village stands a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every morning and evening, the mahant calls out “Aayo… Aayo,” inviting the dogs. Hearing the voice, dozens of dogs gather near the shrine. They are served food first, and only after that are the villagers allowed to eat. The scene looks like a holy ritual where animals are placed at the center of faith.
The story of the land is as surprising as the rituals. History tells us that Baba Ala, the founder of Patiala, once wanted to donate land to Mahant Bhagwan Giri. But the saint refused to take it in his own name. Instead, he asked that the land be registered in the name of the dogs who lived with him during meditation. Since that day, the land has remained under the dogs’ ownership.
Khanpur is not just about local villagers. Devotees from nearby areas also come to this temple. They bring food items, feed the dogs, and make wishes. Many believe their prayers are answered after showing devotion to these animals. For them, the dogs of Khanpur are a symbol of blessing and protection, a living connection between man and faith.
The system of this village is strict. Three times a day, the dogs must be fed before humans can eat. Even the income from the land is not used for personal gain. Every rupee earned goes into the welfare of the dogs and the upkeep of the shrine. The rule is clear and no one dares to break it. This discipline is what keeps the tradition alive even today.
Khanpur shows a picture of faith that is both emotional and inspiring. The millionaire dogs of Punjab are not just landowners but also the center of devotion for hundreds of families. At a time when people across the world fight for property and wealth, this village proves that compassion and sharing can create a unique bond. It is not just a village, it is an unbelievable story of land, faith, and humanity.
